Descartes buys Tai, a freight broker TMS provider, for $100 million

The deal will be funded with Descartes cash on hand and adds AI-driven shipment lifecycle tools spanning quoting, execution, and invoicing.

Descartes Systems Group said it has acquired Tai, a transportation management system provider for freight brokers, in a $100 million deal.

The company plans to fund the acquisition with cash on hand. Tai is California-based and uses an AI-powered platform to oversee the shipment lifecycle, including quoting, sourcing, execution, and invoicing.

Descartes said Tai’s TMS primarily supports truckload, less-than-truckload, drayage, and cross-border shipments. Descartes expects the purchase to expand its transportation management capabilities and add transaction, carrier, and shipment execution data to its Descartes Global Logistics Network.

The company also framed the deal as part of a broader push toward broker-focused digital integration and automation, citing opportunities to streamline freight execution and improve operating margins. Descartes last month acquired Latin American last-mile logistics tech provider Drivin for $30 million, and it acquired fleet safety solutions provider Idelic for $28 million in April.
