India resumes wheat and flour exports after lifting restrictions
The DGFT notifications, effective Aug. 24, lift limits on wheat and durum wheat while allowing free exports of wheat flour and products such as atta, maida and rava.
India has resumed exporting wheat and wheat flour after lifting export restrictions through two Directorate General of Foreign Trade notifications issued Aug. 24, with changes effective immediately, World Grain reported.
The updated rules remove the prior restrictions on wheat and durum wheat, and separately permit free exports of wheat flour and related products, including atta, maida and rava, subject to standard export regulations.
India restricted wheat and wheat flour exports in 2022 to protect domestic food supplies and help control inflation during global market disruptions, then partially relaxed the ban in January by allowing exports of 2.5 million tonnes of wheat and 1 million tonnes of wheat products under a government-monitored allocation system.
The move comes as India is expected to harvest a record 120 million tonnes of wheat for the 2026-27 marketing season, supported by favorable weather, according to the US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service cited by World Grain.
