Iran blacklists 45 tankers as Hormuz standoff intensifies
Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the seven-day average of oil leaving the strait has climbed above 8 million barrels per day.
Iran has blacklisted 45 oil, LNG, LPG and product tankers over alleged violations of rules for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, warning of fines, detention and potential cargo confiscation, according to OilPrice citing reporting from Reuters.
The blacklist includes vessels tied to shipping firms linked to major Gulf producers, including Saudi Arabia’s Bahri and ADNOC Logistics & Services, as well as its Navig8 Tankers subsidiary. Iran also said it could extend the blacklist and target ship-to-ship transfers involving any of the named tankers.
The shipping dispute is unfolding as traffic through Hormuz remains sharply reduced, with AIS-detected traffic estimated to be roughly 90% below pre-war levels, and Kpler data showing only four commodity vessels crossed on Sunday after 13 crossed on Saturday.
OilPrice also notes that the move follows Iran’s warning it could block any oil from leaving the Persian Gulf if Washington proceeds with a new economic offensive. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is due to unveil new measures later on Monday.
