Coinbase stock rises as Bitcoin tops $68,000 and CLARITY Act advances

Coinbase shares jumped 10% after Bitcoin gained about 6%, while the CLARITY Act is moving through Congress with a September procedural floor vote scheduled.

Coinbase Global Inc. shares rose 10% on August 19 after Bitcoin recovered to around $68,000, roughly a 6% gain at the time and the highest level since early June, according to Yahoo Finance. The rally tied together movements in crypto prices and expectations for US digital asset regulation.

The story links the market momentum to a White House meeting in which President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a “fair version” of the CLARITY Act. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong joined other cryptocurrency executives and financial regulators at the meeting, as the proposed law would clarify SEC and CFTC jurisdiction and create a federal registration framework for digital-commodity exchanges, brokers, and dealers.

Despite the stock move, Yahoo Finance points to Coinbase’s second-quarter results showing it still depends on both crypto market conditions and regulatory clarity. Revenue fell 19% to $1.22 billion, and the company posted a $359.5 million net loss that included a $209.5 million loss on crypto assets held for investment and $52.4 million in restructuring expense.

The article adds that Coinbase reported its company-defined crypto trading-volume market share at a record 10.3% in the second quarter, up from 9.1% in the prior quarter. Subscription and services revenue totaled $555 million, or 48% of net revenue, average USDC held in Coinbase products reached a record $20 billion, and 88% of net revenue came from sources other than Bitcoin spot trading, while the CLARITY Act has passed the House but has not cleared the Senate and faces a procedural floor vote scheduled for September.
