France and Saudi Arabia approve €6 billion manga theme park near Paris

The staged parks near Cergy-Pontoise are expected to create about 2,000 jobs, with construction expected to take years.

BBC Business reports that three theme parks will be built near Paris under a France-Saudi Arabia deal worth €6 billion, including a manga-themed attraction inspired by Dragon Ball Z.

The planned development is expected to open in stages near Cergy-Pontoise, but the Élysée Palace has not set a specific opening date and construction is expected to take years.

The project received approval during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s two-day state visit to France, following discussions between French President Emmanuel Macron and bin Salman about their shared interest in Japanese comics, advisers to the president said.

Qiddiya Investment Company, part of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, is set to lead the parks, and the Élysée said the agreement would create about 2,000 jobs.
