HDI Global names new head for fine art and specie unit

The insurer said the role was created to expand a specialist line that insures museum programs and jewelry portfolios, with plans to build local underwriting authority in key regions.

HDI Global has appointed Tobias Sigurdsson as global head of fine art and specie, a newly created position aimed at accelerating the company’s expansion in the specialty insurance line, Insurance Business reports.

Based in Stockholm, Sigurdsson joined HDI Global in June 2017 and previously led cargo and specie underwriting across the Nordics and globally for six years, providing what the company described as the operational foundation for the expanded mandate.

HDI Global said the fine art component broadens the scope of the business, noting that lead market positions in fine art and specie are typically held by a small set of carriers due to the technical expertise required for complex, high-value placements.

The article also cites market estimates, saying the global fine art insurance market was valued at about $12.4 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $22.8 billion by 2034, implying ongoing growth as multiple carriers have added offerings recently.
