S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures rise ahead of Nvidia earnings and Jackson Hole
Dow Jones futures were up 0.4% and Nasdaq-100 contracts gained 1.0% as investors balanced trade and Iran sanctions with upcoming economic data and the Fed’s Jackson Hole speech.
U.S. stock futures pointed higher on Tuesday as investors looked past new trade measures involving Canada and Iran, while they waited for Nvidia earnings and the Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole Symposium later this week. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures edged up 0.4%, S&P 500 futures rose 0.5%, and Nasdaq-100 contracts climbed 1% after Monday’s tech-led pullback, according to Yahoo Finance.
Trading sentiment also reflected developments tied to Iran, including sanctions announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Nvidia’s seventh consecutive daily loss prior to its results. In Asia, stocks broadly fell following the sanctions announcement and Nvidia’s downtrend.
Elsewhere in markets, bitcoin surged above $80,000 for the first time in three months, while gold rallied in recent days but paused on Tuesday. Yahoo Finance also noted that economic reports scheduled for Tuesday, including new home sales, ADP’s weekly employment change, and manufacturing activity, set the stage for a PCE inflation reading on Wednesday.
Earnings and policy catalysts were set for the day as Intuit and Zoom Communications were expected to report key software-sector updates, and DICK’s Sporting Goods was set to provide insight into retail. The week’s focus also included Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh’s first Jackson Hole speech as Fed chair, following the scheduled release of the economic data.
