Alliant hires Mercer veteran to bolster Northeast employee benefits team

The move comes as Mercer's data projects employer healthcare costs to rise 6.5% on average in 2026, with no action running near 9%.

Alliant Insurance Services has hired Andrew Riexinger, a former Mercer principal, as a vice president in its employee benefits group in New Jersey, where the brokerage side of the benefits market is placing more emphasis on financial and claims analysis. According to Insurance Business, Riexinger left Mercer after nearly 14 years. His background spans financial underwriting, claims analysis, plan design, and benefits strategy, and at Mercer he guided employer clients through renewals, market evaluations, and emerging healthcare trends. Alliant plans to use Riexinger to support Northeast employers with plan design, financial underwriting, and carrier evaluations. His responsibilities include leading multidisciplinary teams through renewals and helping leaders assess benefits decisions alongside cost and workforce data. The staffing move reflects rising cost pressure in employer health plans. Insurance Business cites Mercer projections that employer health benefit costs are expected to increase 6.5% on average in 2026, while employers that take no action face an average increase of nearly 9%, and it notes that plan design changes could reduce the projected 2026 healthcare cost trend to 7.6% in a separate employer survey.
