Boston Scientific cyberattack disrupts systems used for order processing

Boston Scientific warned that a cyberattack is disrupting systems it uses to process and ship customer orders, highlighting how operational outages can affect US healthcare companies. The company said the incident was detected on August 25, and it activated incident response procedures and brought in third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate and contain the threat, according to Insurance Business.
Boston Scientific said the disruption is affecting global operations, including restricted access to some information systems and business applications. It has not established a timeline for full restoration, and it has not determined whether the incident is reasonably likely to have a material impact on its business.
The outlet notes that Boston Scientific has not disclosed whether data was stolen, whether ransomware was involved, or how the attacker gained access. With immediate impacts on order processing and shipments, the financial consequences could increasingly depend on how long critical systems remain unavailable.
Insurance Business also pointed to other 2026 healthcare technology cyber incidents, including Stryker, which reported a March attack that affected order processing, manufacturing, and shipping, and West Pharmaceutical Services, which reported a May incident that involved data exfiltration and encrypted systems. In contrast, Medtronic said an April attack on its corporate IT network left manufacturing and distribution unaffected, and Abbott Laboratories disclosed July cyber incidents without reporting operational impact, underscoring differing outcomes for insured clients.
