Hong Kong health officials say no child showed lead poisoning after formula scare
Hong Kong’s Department of Health received 762 inquiries and assessed 237 children, with results showing no signs of lead poisoning.
Hong Kong health authorities said no child has shown signs of lead poisoning after drinking a batch of infant formula that Macau had flagged for containing lead levels above permissible limits.
According to the Hong Kong Department of Health, the alert concerned Frisolac Prestige Stage 1 infant formula manufactured by Royal FrieslandCampina, prompting a month of follow-up activity across health facilities.
The department said its hotline and maternal and child health centres received 762 relevant inquiries. Health officers provided advice on switching formula and referred 446 babies and young children to public hospitals for assessment, including 237 who underwent clinical assessments.
Results from the clinical assessments indicated children’s overall health is good and none showed signs of lead poisoning, while the remaining cases were either still pending assessment or did not proceed with check-ups.
