Indian equities rebound after monthly derivatives expiry
The Nifty 50 bounced from an intraday low of 24,115.45 to close at 24,334.55, helped by easing crude oil and a firmer rupee.
Indian equities rebounded after a volatile session tied to monthly derivatives expiry, with the Nifty 50 ending higher for the day. LiveMint Markets said the index recovered from an intraday low of 24,115.45 to finish 115.50 points higher at 24,334.55, holding above the 24,300 level.
The Sensex rose as well, gaining 286.98 points, or 0.37%, to close at 77,656.09. According to LiveMint Markets, final-hour buying, supported by easing crude oil prices and a firmer rupee, lifted sentiment.
Gains were concentrated in pharma, media, and PSU banking stocks, while other areas lagged. LiveMint Markets reported that the Nifty Midcap rose 0.5% and the Smallcap index ended marginally lower, with Adani Enterprises, Interglobe Aviation, Max Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals, and Adani Ports leading declines.
Market action was mixed across sectors, with consumer durables, infrastructure, IT, media, pharma, and PSU banks advancing, while energy, metals, and private banks saw selling. LiveMint Markets cited support around 24,200 and potential upside toward 24,500 as traders look ahead to the September series.
