Marsh launches Stratus exchange for operational digital infrastructure insurance

The new platform is set to offer up to $10 billion in property capacity on a single placement basis, as Marsh extends its data center construction coverage into the operations phase.

Marsh has announced the launch of Stratus, a property insurance exchange aimed at operational digital infrastructure risks, including data centers and critical support systems. The initiative is designed for US-domiciled companies and connects them to insurers and other capital providers evaluating each risk individually to determine appropriate coverage for each placement.

Stratus will provide access to up to $10 billion in property insurance capacity through the global property risk transfer market. Marsh said 30 traditional and alternative capital provider participants will assess exposures, with the exchange structured to support risk quantification, diversification, and management of aggregation issues during operations.

Marsh said Stratus is intended to extend its construction-phase data center insurance facility, Nimbus, which was launched in June 2025 and later added significant capacity in June 2026. Nimbus now offers limits of up to $2.7 billion, including delay in start-up and business interruption coverage, for major projects across the UK, US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Marsh added that clients can use Stratus and Nimbus together or separately as coverage needs evolve. Initially focused on property insurance, the exchange is planned to expand into other lines including inland marine, cyber, and casualty, with the goal of creating a single point of access for operational digital infrastructure clients.
