Oil stays supported as Iran deal talk and Omani routes shape flows
TD Securities said ship-to-ship transfers via the Omani route are rising, but regional flows remain subdued versus pre-war levels.
TD Securities commodity strategists Ryan McKay and Bart Melek said heavy Iran- and Oman-related deal headlines are influencing energy markets, but they still see crude oil fundamentals as tight.
They pointed to growing ship-to-ship transfers using the Omani route, along with regional flows that remain below pre-war levels.
The strategists also flagged a two-sided risk if leakage increases, which could ease prices, while also raising the chance of renewed Iranian aggression.
In their view, talks involving Iran and Oman on a Hormuz route suggest Iranian control and a shift away from the US-backed southern corridor, with renewed MoU chatter implying a push for upfront US concessions after past failure to follow through.
