Typhoon Saudel disrupts flights across parts of China and Taiwan

China’s Zhejiang and Fujian provinces are on high alert, with emergency response in Zhejiang raised to Level 3 and coastal scenic areas closed.

Typhoon Saudel is approaching China’s coast, prompting flight disruptions and emergency preparations across parts of China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, according to SCMP Economy.

Airports in China’s Zhejiang and Fujian provinces were kept on high alert for possible delays and cancellations. The National Meteorological Centre forecasts Saudel will make landfall between Thursday night and Friday morning along the coast from Xiangshan in eastern Zhejiang to Fuqing in southeast Fujian.

The storm also disrupted air travel beyond mainland China. In Taiwan, Saudel led to 16 cancelled flights at Taoyuan International Airport, affecting carriers including Peach, China Airlines, EVA Air, Starlux, and Thai Lion Air.

In Hong Kong, Hong Kong Airlines fully cancelled flights HX658 and HX659 between the city and Japan’s Okinawa, while HK Express rescheduled its Okinawa-bound services to August 27. SCMP Economy also reports Zhejiang raised its emergency response to Level 3 and closed all coastal scenic areas, evacuating more than 4,100 tourists from island resorts.
