US Secret Service investigating Iranian TV video alleging plot against Barron Trump
The video, broadcast by Iranian state television, claimed a US$10 million bounty was offered for Barron Trump’s killing, according to the Secret Service spokesman.
The US Secret Service is aware of a video broadcast by Iranian state television that discusses a potential plot to assassinate President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, and is investigating anything that could be perceived as a threat to its protectees, a spokesman said on Tuesday, according to Reuters via SCMP Economy.
The three-minute video discussed alleged monitoring of Barron Trump, and it claimed a US$10 million bounty had been offered for his killing. Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring said in an email that the agency does not discuss protective intelligence out of concern for operational security.
The reports come amid continued hostile rhetoric between the United States and Iran during a nearly six-month-old war that began in February, after the US and Israel. Reuters previously reported that US officials received warnings from Israel over the past year about Iran’s alleged intention to assassinate Trump, including before a secret Air Force One ruse in Turkey.
