Google leases 231,000-square-foot office near Union Station in D.C.

The move will consolidate multiple D.C. sites into 500 N. Capitol St. NW in phases, after Google shifts staff as the interior is built out.

Google has leased a large portion of a 231,000-square-foot office building near Union Station in Washington, D.C., according to ConnectCRE citing the Washington Business Journal.

The company plans to combine its multiple D.C. office locations, moving staff to 500 N. Capitol St. NW in phases over the next few years as the new office’s interior is built out.

For now, Google will keep operating at its existing locations until the consolidated space is ready. The tech firm subleased 130,000 square feet at 655 New York Ave. NW in 2022 and also maintains about 100,000 square feet at 25 Massachusetts Ave. NW.

The building at 500 N. Capitol St. NW is owned by BXP Inc., which holds a 30% stake, with majority owner Masaveu International of Miami. The property was built in 1966 and was acquired by BXP in 2010, and it sits a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol.
