Commodity vessel traffic rises at Strait of Hormuz amid diplomacy
Ten commodity vessels transited on Wednesday, up from eight Tuesday, but the total still fell below the 10 day average of 15 vessels.
OilPrice reports commodity vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz edged higher over the past 24 hours, supported by a new diplomatic push around temporary shipping corridors and the possible reopening of the Middle East’s key oil and gas chokepoint.
According to Kpler data cited by Reuters, 10 commodity vessels made the transit on Wednesday, up from eight on Tuesday. That compares with a 10 day average of 15 vessels moving through the strait in either direction.
The Wednesday flow included two fuel tankers, a liquefied petroleum gas carrier, a Panamax oil tanker, and three handymax sized tankers moving into the Persian Gulf via Hormuz. Three other vessels, including a fuel tanker, a bitumen tanker, and a bulk carrier, moved outbound from the Persian Gulf into the Gulf of Oman.
While traffic at Hormuz rose slightly, transits at the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on the Red Sea fell to 19 ships from 24 the previous day, as the region remains tense. OilPrice also notes another tanker was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz in recent hours, highlighting ongoing risks to tanker transits.
