Crude rebounds toward $84 as reopening talks deepen deadlock

Crude is trading near $83.50, after recovering more than $3.00 from a session low just above $80.00, as Strait of Hormuz reopening conditions remain unresolved.

Crude oil is trading near $83.50 on Thursday, after moving about 2.5% higher and more than $3.00 above a session low just above $80.00 reported at 07:00 GMT, as the market unwinds part of a prior selloff.

According to an FXStreet market note, the June framework signed at Versailles is the only reopening mechanism on the table, with both Washington and Tehran refusing the other side's reading. Washington told mediators it will not return to the earlier memorandum, and Tehran's Revolutionary Guard said the Strait of Hormuz stays shut until the United States resumes implementing that same document, including export waivers and blockade relief.

FXStreet also points to shifting signals around diplomatic efforts, noting that Pakistan's army chief left Tehran with nothing, Oman's foreign minister faced a rebuke from Washington after conceding too much, and Qatar's prime minister arrived to focus on preventing escalation rather than striking a deal.

On the technical side, FXStreet highlighted resistance at a session high just below $84.00, with the 50-day EMA near $81.50 and the 200-day near $78.50 identified as key supports. The note described a bullish bias above $81.5, while a daily close below $81.0 would invalidate that view.
