Crypto traders watch Jackson Hole speech for hints on rates and stablecoins

The speech comes as PCE inflation ran at 3.7% in July and long term borrowing costs sit near multi year highs.

CoinDesk reports that crypto traders are positioning for Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s keynote at the Jackson Hole conference, focusing on what the speech could signal for inflation policy, liquidity, and the impact on digital assets beyond bitcoin.

According to CIO Mark Connors at Risk Dimensions, Warsh may leave a rate hike on the table, but he expects the Fed to keep rates steady until after the midterm elections. Hashdex CIO Samir Kerbage said bitcoin traders should watch liquidity and long term yields, adding that Warsh’s views on stablecoins and tokenization could matter more for broader crypto markets.

The backdrop includes inflation still above the Fed’s 2% target, with the Fed’s preferred Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index rising to 3.7% in July, in part due to energy prices linked to the war in Iran. CoinDesk also notes that the Fed has held the fed funds rate range at 3.5% to 3.75% recently.

CoinDesk said markets are trying to gauge whether another rate hike is coming as long term borrowing costs remain near multi year highs, after bitcoin climbed about $79,987.19 over the past ten days. Traders will look to whether Warsh’s tougher approach to inflation and less market tuned forward guidance changes expectations for crypto momentum.
