Polish Olympic chief arrested in probe tied to crypto exchange bribes

Prosecutors are examining allegations that Zondacrypto CEO Przemysław Kral provided a roughly 40,000 euro watch to help clear regulatory hurdles.

CoinDesk reports that Polish Olympic Committee head Radosław Piesiewicz was arrested as prosecutors investigated potential financial bribes involving the crypto exchange Zondacrypto.

Prosecutors are probing allegations that Zondacrypto CEO Przemysław Kral gave Piesiewicz a Patek Philippe watch worth about 40,000 euros, with additional gifts, in exchange for help dealing with issues with Poland’s competition regulator. Piesiewicz denies receiving the watch as a gift, saying he paid for it in cash and that Kral only helped arrange the purchase.

The investigation also covers suspected fraud and money laundering at Zondacrypto. Prosecutors estimate customer losses of at least 350 million zlotys and say the exchange’s owner acknowledged it had, for years, lacked access to a cold wallet holding about 4,500 bitcoin.

CoinDesk adds that Zondacrypto became the Olympic committee’s general sponsor in October under an agreement spanning 2026 through 2028. Prosecutors said further information would come after Piesiewicz was questioned, and they have not disclosed any charges as of the time of writing.
