Trump administration trades show Exxon stake sold before Iran ceasefire

ExxonMobil closed at $163.91 on April 7, then opened at $153.52 the next morning as shares dropped 6.5%, after Iran-war ceasefire news that evening.

President Donald Trump’s investment accounts sold ExxonMobil stock on April 7, the same day he announced a ceasefire in the Iran war, according to financial disclosures reviewed by CBS News.

ExxonMobil closed at $163.91 on April 7, and after the ceasefire was announced that evening, the stock opened at $153.52 the following morning, a decline of 6.5% at the open, the report said.

CBS News also said the sale was part of a broader pattern of trading tied to oil and gas firms, including Exxon, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in purchases and sales logged during the first half of 2026 in filings with the Office of Government Ethics.

The report noted that oil majors posted strong earnings amid the Iran conflict and disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, with ExxonMobil and Chevron earning a combined $26.5 billion in the second quarter, and it said Trump later accused the companies of making “too much money” and demanded fuel price cuts.
