Bitcoin slips after failed $81,000 breakout, $77,000 in focus
A hawkish repricing tied to Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks pushed September rate-hike odds to about 55%, sending BTC back under $80,000.
Bitcoin is trading near $78,000 heading into the weekend, after reversing a failed push above $81,000 on Aug. 28 and returning to a range framed by $77,000 support and $80,000 resistance.
The pullback followed remarks from Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole that lifted September rate-hike odds to around 55% from roughly 40% beforehand, with Warsh saying the Fed still needed to see inflation move back toward its target.
Options and positioning also shifted, with about 81,700 Bitcoin options worth roughly $6.4 billion expiring on Deribit Friday at 08:00 UTC. US-traded spot Bitcoin ETFs posted nine straight days of net inflows through Aug. 27, totaling about $3 billion, but weekend ETF creation and redemption pauses on the US equity weekday schedule.
With CME moving to 24/7 trading since late May, regulated derivatives can react to weekend price moves even as one major demand channel is offline. Market focus is on whether BTC can reclaim $80,000, while a sustained loss of $77,000 would open the door to the mid-$75,000s.
