EHang eVTOL makes maiden demonstration flight in Hong Kong
The unmanned electric aircraft flew at Cyberport, where Hong Kong is developing a low-altitude economy with legislation targeted for completion by 2027.
An unmanned electric vertical take-off and landing, or eVTOL, aircraft made its maiden demonstration flight in Hong Kong on Friday, as the city pushes to build a low-altitude economy.
According to SCMP Economy, the flight involved mainland Chinese autonomous aerial vehicle firm EHang, local transport operator Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, and Hong Kong’s technology hub, Cyberport, with the demonstration taking place at Cyberport in Pok Fu Lam.
SCMP Economy said the aircraft conducted multiple sorties along predetermined routes during its robot-carrying demonstration of EHang’s flagship EH216-S, and that public demonstrations were set to continue until Sunday.
The report also noted Hong Kong’s low-altitude push includes a “Regulatory Sandbox X” environment for risk assessment flights in complex airspace, with the government aiming to complete drafting relevant legislation by 2027.
