Hong Kong ride-hailing firms show interest in new licence regime
The transport chief said a first batch of licence applicants could be approved in early December, with a briefing session planned for mid-September.
Several ride-hailing platforms have indicated interest in applying for licences under Hong Kong’s new regulatory regime, according to the city’s transport chief, a day after authorities opened licence applications outlining nine requirements.
SCMP Economy reports that Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said on Saturday that two to three platform operators have expressed interest and that she expects them to apply soon. She added that the government will hold a briefing session in mid-September to communicate directly with interested applicants.
The report says the first batch of applicants could be approved in early December. Among the nine conditions, operators must show a proven track record of providing lawful services in cities with populations above 7.5 million and handle more than 100,000 daily orders in at least two locations.
