The decision is set to shape a wide range of policy areas beyond Brussels, as debate has encompassed food security and national identity, along with defense, housing, inflation, and natural resources.

For some Icelandic farmers, the stakes center on whether EU negotiations would slow progress made in the sector and reduce profits, while acknowledging that parts of farming in Iceland have been brighter, with farmers in some cases seeing higher prices for meat and milk and pursuing innovation.
