Stanley Black & Decker to close Hampstead, Maryland factory and lay off 55

The WARN notice says layoffs will start Oct. 23, 2026, with the site closing by March 26, 2027.

Stanley Black & Decker Inc. plans to shut its underperforming Hampstead, Maryland, manufacturing facility and lay off 55 workers, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the Maryland Department of Labor.

The notice says the layoffs are set to begin on Oct. 23, 2026 and continue through the factory closing by March 26, 2027, as the company moves to eliminate a production drain tied to weakening demand.

In explaining the decision, the company said volume has declined in recent years at the Hampstead site, prompting it to announce its intent to close the location.

A company spokesperson told the Baltimore Sun that Stanley Black & Decker is working to support impacted employees through a transition plan that includes options for employment at other U.S. facilities, plus severance and job placement support.
