HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan to step down, successor process starts
Jagdishan will leave as MD and CEO after his term ends October 26, 2026, and HDFC Bank said it has accelerated identifying his successor.
HDFC Bank said its CEO, Sashidhar Jagdishan, has decided to step down as managing director and CEO, prompting an accelerated process to identify his replacement.
The bank noted that Jagdishan is not seeking another term and that his current tenure runs until October 26, 2026. HDFC Bank also said the board had tried to persuade him to continue, before beginning the successor search with less time than is typical for leadership transitions.
According to the filing, Jagdishan joined HDFC Bank in 1996 and worked his way up over nearly three decades to become CEO. HDFC Bank’s board said his leadership contributed to the bank’s growth and stability, including completion of one of the largest mergers in corporate India.
LiveMint Markets also cited Reuters reporting that candidates under consideration could include V. Srinivasa Rangan or Bharucha, with an external option also possible because RBI rules require multiple names to be submitted. The stock closed up 1.2% on Friday at ₹719.5 per share on August 28, while analysts expect heightened opening volatility linked to headline risks, with support from fundamentals unless new regulatory measures emerge.
