Virtu Financial shares jump on reports of agency brokerage sale talks
The potential deal value is cited at $3.5 billion to $4.0 billion, and Virtu last reported Q2 2026 revenues up 19% year over year to $1.19 billion.
Virtu Financial Inc. shares rose about 5% to $63.00 on August 20 after media reports said the trading firm is considering a sale of its agency brokerage and technology division, according to Yahoo Finance citing Bloomberg sources.
Bloomberg said sources familiar with the matter estimate a potential transaction could fetch $3.5 billion to $4.0 billion, though discussions are described as early and Virtu may ultimately keep the unit.
The update arrives after Virtu reported Q2 2026 results on July 30, with total revenues up 19% year over year to $1.19 billion and net trading income up 31.2% to $856.7 million. GAAP EPS was $1.63, while normalized adjusted EPS rose to $1.82 and adjusted EBITDA reached $436.8 million, a 60.8% margin.
Following the August 20 reports, Piper Sandler analyst Patrick Moley kept an Outperform rating and a $70 price target. The note pointed to a valuation range of 6.0x to 6.8x NTM sales or 20x to 23x NTM adjusted EBITDA, and suggested that directing net proceeds into trading capital could increase market-making capital materially, potentially lifting EPS by 2027.
