Adani Group stocks fall as MSCI index reshuffle stirs selling pressure

Adani Enterprises fell nearly 8% to ₹2,921, while the MSCI change is expected to drive specific fund inflows into several Adani companies including about $202 million for Adani Enterprises.

Adani Group shares extended losses on Monday amid heightened volatility tied to an MSCI index reshuffle, with selling pressure spreading across the conglomerate’s listed companies and the broader Indian market also weakening.

Adani Enterprises was the weakest major name, down nearly 8% to ₹2,921. Adani Energy Solutions declined 7.4% to ₹1,463, Adani Green Energy slipped about 7% to ₹1,217.95, and Adani Power fell 6.5% to ₹198.65, while other group firms such as Adani Ports and Adani Total Gas also traded lower.

The weakness came as investors stayed cautious before the implementation of the MSCI changes, which Reuters said are expected to trigger substantial fund movements in multiple Adani companies. The reshuffle is expected to bring inflows of about $202 million to Adani Enterprises, about $77 million to Adani Ports, and about $310 million to Adani Energy Solutions, as MSCI added certain names to the MSCI Global Standard Index after market close on August 31, 2026.

Beyond additions, MSCI also increased weightings of several existing stocks, including Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and SEZ, and Adani Power, while reducing weightages for companies such as Reliance Industries and Jio Financial Services, changes that can also lead to further inflows and outflows as funds rebalance.
