Trump threatens FCC action over criticism of NBC journalist
Trump said he would seek an FCC “rebuke or punishment” after objecting to NBC host Kristen Welker’s assessment of the results of his political endorsements in primaries.
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened a prominent NBC broadcast journalist with possible action by the Federal Communications Commission, after he said her coverage of his candidate endorsements ahead of the November midterm elections was “purposefully” inaccurate, according to SCMP Economy. Trump made the comments on his Truth Social platform, targeting Kristen Welker, who hosts NBC’s Meet the Press. He objected to her characterization that his endorsements had “mixed results” in party primaries, arguing instead that the races had gone his way 98.0% to 100.0% of the time, the outlet reported. In related remarks earlier Sunday, Welker told a local NBC affiliate that Trump would “loom large over these midterms.” She also said his endorsement record had some mixed results, but that his most recent pick, Senator Darline Graham, had been successful in her primary battle, SCMP Economy said. Trump said the FCC should be notified for “rebuke or punishment” because of the alleged inaccuracy. The FCC assigns and oversees broadcast licenses for radio and television frequencies, the report added.
