Pattaya expects US Navy sailors to spur late tour spending

South China Morning Post reports that Pattaya, a Thai beach resort city known for nightlife, is preparing for the USS Abraham Lincoln to dock near the area this week.

After more than 250 days at sea fighting in the war on Iran, the ship is set to bring more than 5,000 American sailors and Marines ashore, giving them shore leave as a final stop before returning home.

The local tourism outlook hinges on the spending those visits could generate, with Pattaya hoping sailors and Marines will boost activity during their time in the city.
