Dyson launches 420-pound CameraJet toothbrush with live-mouth camera
The CameraJet’s MyDyson app shows users “live cleaning footage,” and Dyson says it uses a 100k pixel macro lens and a mouthwash system to improve brushing coverage.
Dyson has launched the CameraJet, a 420-pound toothbrush that pairs brushing with a built-in camera aimed at helping users clean their mouths more thoroughly. The company positions the device as part of an “entire new way to keep your mouth healthy,” including a system it says can display what a dentist sees.
According to the company, the toothbrush includes a 100k pixel macro lens camera that works like a high-quality endoscope. Users can view “live cleaning footage” through the MyDyson app, where Dyson says the system provides feedback on a person’s cleaning routine.
Dyson also says the product can clean and floss, and it includes an “anti-gravity (mouthwash) tank” that can spray tiny jets of mouthwash. Dyson founder and chief engineer James Dyson said the effort took six years and drew on the work of 661 engineers.
Dyson added that it spent well over a decade studying oral care routines and how plaque builds up. The company said its development included creating a “proxy plaque” used to test plaque removal more accurately, and Dyson cited research that people often miss plaque-prone areas between teeth.
