Indonesia shifts 1.4 million students to online learning due to haze

About 1.43 million students across 12,874 schools in six provinces are learning remotely from Monday through Friday, with the schedule reviewed every three days based on air pollution readings.

Indonesia has moved about 1.4 million students in six provinces to online learning because of poor air quality tied to forest and land fires, an education ministry official said Wednesday, according to SCMP Economy.

As of September 2, around 1.43 million students from 12,874 schools in the affected provinces were studying remotely, with 1.1 million of them in West Kalimantan, the province that has recorded the most extensive wildfires so far this year.

The remote learning period runs from Monday until Friday, and the program will be continuously evaluated every three days, the official said, with the decision based on the air pollution standard index in each region.
