LDC adds 40,000 tonnes of grain storage capacity in Pakistan
The facility, inaugurated Sept. 2 in Multan, boosts LDC logistics in South Punjab, a major wheat producing region.
Louis Dreyfus Co., known as LDC, inaugurated a new grain storage facility on Sept. 2 in Multan, Pakistan, adding about 40,000 tonnes of storage capacity to its logistics capabilities in South Punjab, where wheat production is concentrated, according to World Grain.
World Grain reports that LDC framed the investment as part of its effort to strengthen its presence in Pakistan’s domestic grain market and better serve evolving customer needs across South Asia.
LDC said Pakistan is both a major producer and consumer of wheat, supported by demand from a population of more than 250 million. It also pointed to a forecast for marketing year 2026 to 2027 wheat production of 29.6 million tonnes, 2.0% higher than last year, driven by an increase in planted area.
World Grain also noted that LDC said investing in logistics infrastructure is intended to improve supply chain efficiency and resilience, and support job creation locally as the grains sector develops. It added that Green Acres Milling is set to begin operating an oat mill with annual production capacity of 39,420 tonnes of finished oat products.
