Kalshi and Polymarket combined volume slips 14.5% in August

Kalshi’s August volume fell 7.3% to $37.17 billion, while Polymarket and Polymarket US dropped 36.7% to $8.16 billion.

Kalshi and Polymarket saw their combined monthly prediction market volume decline for the first time in a year, falling 14.5% in August to $45.33 billion, according to data compiled by The Block.

Kalshi recorded $37.17 billion in August volume, down 7.3% from $40.1 billion in July. Polymarket and its U.S. platform combined for $8.16 billion in August, down 36.7% from $12.89 billion in July.

The Block said the pullback follows a summer spike in activity tied to the World Cup, which ran from June 11 to July 19. It added that August volume still remained above May’s $25.66 billion.

Despite the volume drop, both platforms are facing increased scrutiny from U.S. state regulators over sports-related contracts. The Block also noted that Kalshi signed a deal to become the exclusive prediction market partner of the U.S. Open, and that it permanently banned former U.S. Rep. George Santos from trading after he bet on whether he would attend the State of the Union, with a fine of more than $71,000.
