Qatar and UAE shift LNG cargoes outside Hormuz as shipping stalls

Vessel-tracking data cited by Reuters shows three August ship to ship transfers of LNG cargoes that are rare for the region, even as Strait of Hormuz LNG traffic remains at a standstill.

OilPrice reports that three LNG carriers loaded from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in the Persian Gulf have transferred their cargoes to other vessels outside the Strait of Hormuz over the past month, a move described as highly unusual for LNG shipments.

According to Reuters, citing vessel tracking data from Vortexa and Kpler, LNG traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has remained at a standstill despite estimates that oil flows have rebounded in recent weeks.

The transfers include a Greek owned GasLog Shanghai cargo, after it was involved in an incident in late July, shifting its cargo to GasLog Savannah offshore Oman in late August. Reuters also cited an STS transfer involving a Qatar owned vessel, Al Rekayyat, transferring a cargo to Qatar owned tanker Tembek in mid August, with that cargo delivered to India on August 31.

OilPrice adds that ADNOC’s Mraweh LNG carrier completed an STS transfer onto LNG Enugu outside the Strait offshore Oman in mid August and was en route to deliver the cargo when the report was published.
