U.S. envoy plans Ukraine talks as Russia finance minister attends G20
The diplomatic push follows envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveling to Moscow, with Zelenskyy saying a follow-up Kyiv visit is being planned in the coming weeks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was briefed by US President Donald Trump’s special envoys after their latest trip to Moscow, and he added that the two Americans are working on plans for a follow-up visit to Kyiv in the coming weeks, according to OilPrice. Zelenskyy said he expects discussions will hinge on whether Moscow brings the right mindset.
OilPrice also reported that, while Russian President Vladimir Putin was in Bishkek for a regional summit, Russia’s finance minister Anton Siluanov made a surprise appearance at a G20 finance meeting in North Carolina. Some participants expressed anger at the presence of Russia’s representative while Russia remains at war with Ukraine.
In the same update, OilPrice said Trump confirmed envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will go to Kyiv, which would be their first visit to Ukraine since taking leading roles in the administration’s efforts to end Russia’s full scale invasion.
OilPrice noted that Witkoff and Kushner have traveled to Moscow and met Russian representatives multiple times during Trump’s second term, drawing criticism that the administration has shown favoritism toward the Kremlin.
