US carries out strikes against IRGC targets amid renewed Iran tensions

The latest escalation followed Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and an attack on US troops, adding support to crude oil prices as WTI was up 0.1% to $91.35.

The US Central Command said it completed a wave of strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran early Wednesday, according to reporting by CNBC.

The announcement came after the US and Iran traded a new round of attacks on Tuesday, with CENTCOM describing the strikes as retaliation for Iranian actions including attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and a recent attack on US troops stationed in the region.

US President Donald Trump warned more attacks could follow if Tehran responded, as explosions were reported over the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba.

The region also saw additional reports of military action involving Iranian weapons, while crude oil drew interest, with West Texas Intermediate up 0.1% on the day to $91.35.
