Amplify Lithium & Battery Tech ETF BATT climbs more than 10% in August

BATT gained about 10.4% in August, helped by strength in battery-materials linked to rising lithium prices and expectations for tighter copper supply.

ETF Trends reports the Amplify Lithium & Battery Technology ETF, BATT, rose from $14.34 at the end of July to $15.80 at the end of August, a gain of about 10.4%.

The rally was tied to investor optimism about battery materials, with lithium supported by higher lithium carbonate and spodumene prices. Copper also benefited from expectations for tighter supplies and growing demand.

Copper is described as a key input for lithium-ion batteries, making up roughly 10% to 15% of their total weight, and the story points to growing demand for lithium batteries as a driver for companies across the sector.

According to VettaFi data cited by ETF Trends, as of August 31, CATL made up about 6.2% of the fund, Albemarle about 1.7%, and Pilbara Minerals about 1.6%. The publication also highlights that materials holdings, weighted at 59.3%, drove much of the monthly performance, with BHP Group returning 12.1%, Tesla up 18.2%, and Freeport-McMoRan up 20.9%.
