Anthony Armstrong joins Coinbase board and audit panel
Coinbase said Armstrong will serve on the Audit and Compliance Committee as the board expands to 10 members, while shares have fallen more than 40% over the past year to $174.96.
Coinbase has appointed Anthony Armstrong, a former CFO at Elon Musk-related companies including xAI and X, to its board of directors, according to The Block. Armstrong will also serve on the Audit and Compliance Committee, and the exchange said his appointment raises the board size from nine to 10 members, citing an SEC filing.
The Block reported that the filing also noted there are no family relationships between Armstrong and any Coinbase director or executive officer, including CEO Brian Armstrong. Coinbase described Armstrong as having nearly a decade of investment banking experience at Morgan Stanley, where he ultimately served as vice chairman of investment banking, before later roles across several Musk firms.
Coinbase’s board move comes as the company pursues an expanded push beyond crypto trading toward what it calls an “everything exchange.” The Block said Coinbase last month rolled out access to nearly 4,000 U.S. stocks for eligible UK users with 24/5 trading, and that in its most recent quarterly report the firm said 88% of net revenue now comes from sources other than bitcoin spot trading.
The Block also pointed to recent stock performance, saying Coinbase shares are down more than 40% over the past year and closed Wednesday at $174.96.
