Dutch central bank moves 86 tonnes of gold from US and Canada to London
The move reduced the share of Dutch gold held in New York and Ottawa to 18.5% each, while keeping total reserves at 612.4 tonnes valued at €72.2 billion at end-2025.
The Dutch central bank, DNB, said it moved 86 tonnes of its gold reserves out of the US and Canada to London, citing increasing geopolitical unrest.
DNB said gold held in London can be traded more easily than reserves located in New York and Ottawa, and that the change improves the reserves deployability if a crisis arises.
In its statement, DNB President Olaf Sleijpen said the bank expects it will never need to deploy the gold, but described strengthening resilience and preparedness as necessary.
The DNB said the Netherlands’ total gold stock was 612.4 tonnes, valued at €72.2 billion (US$83.7 billion) at the end of 2025, and that after the transfer New York and Ottawa each accounted for 18.5% of the Dutch gold reserve.
