Securitize and Socios partner to tokenize minority equity in pro teams

The partnership aims to roll out regulated tokenized equity through Securitize’s European trading and settlement system under the EU DLT Pilot Regime.

Securitize and Socios.com announced a strategic partnership to develop regulated tokenized equity offerings tied to professional sports teams, focused on minority interests under the Socios Equity Token brand. The firms said Socios.com will lead the sports-industry and fan side of the initiative, while Securitize will oversee regulated securities issuance, investor onboarding, ownership records, and transfers across its U.S. and European infrastructure, according to The Block.

The initiative is expected to be the first project launched through Securitize’s fully authorized European Trading & Settlement System under the EU DLT Pilot Regime, potentially expanding access to a market the companies estimate at about $500 billion for global professional sports franchises. The Block also reported that the firms are positioning the offerings for two audiences, eligible fans seeking a deeper economic relationship with teams and institutional or private equity investors seeking exposure to an alternative asset class.

Socios.com previously issued fan tokens with more than 70 sports organizations, the majority of which are soccer-based clubs, the report said. Details including which teams will participate, offering terms, investor eligibility, and supported blockchain networks are expected to be announced as individual offerings receive approval.

Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo said in a statement that professional sports teams represent a significant, largely private asset class that has been difficult to access, and that Securitize’s regulated infrastructure can provide a new way for teams and owners to issue and administer equity while preserving investor protections and ownership rights for holders, as described by The Block.
