MTR sues Opatra operator Sayles Retail over unpaid HK$347,000
The suit involves unpaid rent and fees at Citylink Plaza in Sha Tin, as Opatra London faces Hong Kong customs action tied to alleged aggressive sales tactics.
Hong Kong railway operator MTR Corporation has filed a lawsuit against local distributor Sayles Retail, the operator behind UK beauty chain Opatra London, over allegedly unpaid rent and other fees totaling more than HK$347,000 at Citylink Plaza in Sha Tin, according to a court document reviewed by the South China Morning Post.
The outlet said MTR is suing Sayles Retail as the landlord of the shopping mall over outstanding payments.
SCMP also tied the legal dispute to recent scrutiny of Opatra London, noting that over the past month Hong Kong customs and law enforcement actions followed online customer complaints about aggressive sales tactics.
Customs and Excise Department officers said they arrested three individuals, including a saleswoman, after a separate Wednesday arrest, and the outlet reported allegations that the saleswoman pressured a customer into purchases at an Opatra London branch in New Town Plaza in Sha Tin that is now closed.
