Standard Chartered launches spot Bitcoin and Ether trading in UAE for institutions
The bank will route spot BTC and ETH orders for eligible institutional clients through electronic trading channels integrated with its existing platforms, expanding its regulated digital asset offering in the region.
Standard Chartered has launched spot Bitcoin and Ether trading for institutional clients in the United Arab Emirates, using its Dubai International Financial Centre regulated entity, Cointelegraph reports. The bank said the rollout makes it the first major global bank to provide institutional access to spot BTC and ETH trading in the UAE region.
Standard Chartered will allow eligible institutional clients to access spot Bitcoin and Ether trading through its electronic trading channels, integrated into the bank’s existing platforms. The move also expands Standard Chartered’s regulated crypto asset offering in the region.
Cointelegraph notes the bank previously launched digital asset custody services in the UAE in September 2024. In June, Standard Chartered also entered a banking agreement with CoinMENA, enabling the exchange to use the bank for fiat on and off-ramps, client money accounts, and virtual account-based transaction management.
Other firms pursuing UAE crypto offerings include Capital.com, which in August said it planned to offer spot crypto services in the country after securing a virtual asset license from the Capital Market Authority. Earlier in July, Cointelegraph says neobank Revolut received in-principle approval from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority to offer crypto-related services in the region.
