Standard Chartered launches spot Bitcoin trading for UAE institutions

The bank said eligible institutional clients in the UAE can access spot Bitcoin trading, with its UAE custody business launched in 2024 as a precursor.

Standard Chartered has debuted spot Bitcoin trading for institutional clients in the United Arab Emirates, positioning the service as the first of its kind in the country, according to Bitcoin Magazine.

The bank said it made the offer available to eligible institutional clients and pointed to the UAE’s regulatory approach as supportive of institutional participation and digital asset innovation.

Bitcoin Magazine also noted that Standard Chartered launched digital asset custody services in the UAE in 2024, and later set up a trading desk for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in London in 2025, where the crypto desk was integrated into its forex trading operation.

The outlet further reported that Standard Chartered has used other platforms such as its blockchain unit Libeara to help institutions tokenize traditional assets, and that the bank has previously argued in investor notes that Bitcoin could keep rising this year.
