Thomson Reuters discloses C-Track platform breach affecting 11 US states
The unauthorized access was detected June 30 and Thomson Reuters said there was no operational disruption to the C-Track service.
Thomson Reuters disclosed that an unauthorized party obtained files from its C-Track court case management platform in March 2026, affecting court systems in 11 US states, the US Virgin Islands, and three Ontario courts, according to the company’s breach notification and a joint statement from Ontario court chief justices. The breach was detected on June 30, and the company said the accessed files included court records. Thomson Reuters added that some records contained names and personal information, and the chief justices said individuals involved in court proceedings, or those simply mentioned in court documents, could have had personal information connected to the incident. Thomson Reuters said C-Track products and services remain fully operational and there has been no operational disruption. The company also said independent cybersecurity experts assisted with the investigation and validated remediation measures, while it noted the full scope of what was compromised is still unclear. A contact center will be active from September 4 to handle inquiries in both the US and Canada. The story highlights that the incident is not a conventional enterprise cyber event because the data at risk belongs to people who never chose Thomson Reuters as a customer, underscoring how third-party data liability can be a common cyber insurance claim category.
