Kazakhstan targets education hub status as it links training to jobs

The push includes expanding ties with Hong Kong and mainland Chinese universities to meet demand for specialists who understand both business environments.

Kazakhstan is aiming to become an education powerhouse in Central Asia, but experts say the country also needs to ensure young people can find opportunities that match their skills as the economy rapidly transforms, according to SCMP Economy.

Educators and advocates said further collaboration with Hong Kong and universities on mainland China is in the pipeline, with demand growing for specialists who understand the business environments of both Kazakhstan and China.

SCMP Economy also highlighted Nazarbayev University in Astana, where President Professor Waqar Ahmad said the institution is strengthening its role as a leading research center in the region as Kazakhstan pursues its wider goal.

Ahmad stressed that an education hub is not just about course quality, arguing Kazakhstan must build a broader ecosystem that can keep talent in the country.
