Silver surged 149% in 3.1 months before a sharp late-January drop
The rally peaked near $116 per ounce and later saw a one-day 27.5% selloff, including silver hitting a multi-decade extreme above its 200-day moving average.
Mining.com notes that silver’s recent move confounded expectations of bearish apathy, describing a rapid run-up despite earlier weakness that had cut the metal more than in half earlier this year.
The outlet says silver climbed alongside gold to an all-time high near $116 per ounce in late January, delivering 455.2% gains over 27.8 months, and then accelerated further with a 149.0% jump in just 3.1 months into that peak.
It also highlights how performance was uneven, lagging gold early on before becoming more parabolic near the end, and it frames the run as highly speculative based on past episodes.
Mining.com further points to the aftermath, stating silver ultimately corrected quickly, including a 27.5% drop in a single trading day after the late-January peak, and calling the metal’s extreme overboughtness relative to its 200-day moving average the most extreme since January 1980.
