Cronos rolls back chain after Tectonic exploit recovers most funds
Cronos said validators reversed 10,961 blocks, recovering $111.2 million (about 92%), while $9.19 million still remains unrecovered.
Cronos validators executed a blockchain rollback after an exploit tied to the Tectonic lending platform, recovering $111.2 million, or about 92% of the affected funds, according to CoinDesk. The incident involved an attacker that inflated Tectonic’s TONIC token by roughly 100-fold before borrowing across nine markets. Cronos confirmed the Aug. 30 attack involved $120.4 million in borrowing activity. Cronos said roughly two hours of blockchain history were reversed, with validators rolling back 10,961 blocks and all transactions within that window. It also reported that $9.19 million, or about 7.6% of the affected funds, left the network before Cronos halted it on Aug. 31 and remains unrecovered. The recovery came with disruption, CoinDesk reported. Cronos said validators rewound settled blocks and voided transactions made by users not involved in the attack, and it noted that open positions on live apps repriced when trading resumed. Block production resumed about 11 hours after the exploit.
