Nigeria petroleum product shipments rise sharply as Dangote refinery ramps up

Nigeria’s seaborne petroleum product exports have increased seven-fold since 2023, boosting the country’s role in overseas supply amid constrained output elsewhere.

Nigeria’s seaborne petroleum product exports are rising rapidly, supported by refinery capacity that is increasingly influencing international flows, according to the EIA.

The EIA says petroleum product shipments from Nigeria have grown seven-fold since 2023, reflecting the expanding contribution of the country to the global market for refined fuels.

The agency attributes the increase in part to the Dangote refinery, which has helped drive more product exports even as supplies from other regions have been constrained.

As a result, Nigeria is taking on a larger role in overseas petroleum product availability, the EIA said.
